So this is it...?
My first blog post, and now it appears I have so little to say. But that's only an illusion, as I always have something to say, whether I recognized it or not.
As I sit at the trailhead of this fresh path I've selected, I find a little irony in the fact that this new beginning falls on Independence Day, July 4. Maybe irony is not the word for which I seek. No, it is oddly appropriate that I fire my first shot on this day when this once-great nation was forged from the steel of resolve and oppression, in that furnace into which many a life was cast for the sake of...freedom.
As I write this, our world seems to be unraveling, the stitches popping from the seams in the midst of scandal and corruption at the highest levels. The NSA, the IRS, the TSA, the FDA...these are not the ingredients of some benign alphabet soup. No, make no mistake, these letters spell the articles of our undoing as free men and women, and like our forefathers, the very framers of this country, we now sit at a crossroads. Choices to make. Actions to ponder. Costs to calculate.
Are we made of the same forthright resolve that formed the anvil upon which our freedom was hammered out some two centuries ago? Or have we become dull creatures of comfort, content to capitalize on the sacrifices of others while doing nothing to further the common cause? George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin...could these men ever have imagined the leviathan that their creation would one day spawn? I hardly think they would have hesitated to strike down the beast while young had they known that the very vessel of freedom in the world would one day become vile, tainted, covered with the sticky film of oppression.
No, they had much higher aspirations for their little experiment in democracy. They hoped that the beacon of free men everywhere would shine from the shores of this Brave New World, that the "City on a Hill" would lead the legions to the ultimate in self-determination. My, how we've fallen away from that noble purpose. We've knowingly given ourselves to our overlords, trading privacy and liberty for security and comfort. As one of our founders, Jefferson, once stated, "He who would trade liberty for security deserves neither." How deserving are we of this right we have let fall into disrepair?...
As we begin this path together, I'd like to pin on your vest a guiding principle. It is quite simple, but it will illuminate the night. That principle is thus: question everything. You see, what we see is rarely all there is to see. Illusion abounds. It doesn't take intuition to navigate our way out of this trap into which we've fallen. It simply takes lucidity. Wake up. Stay awake. Trust me, you'll enjoy this ride a lot more with eyes wide open...fearless.
Because after all, in truth, what can be taken from you? Nothing of any consequence. Your life? Your life here is an illusion, simply a thread woven into the fabric of the matrix that exerts its control over humanity. Your property? In the grand plan of the universe, you own nothing, and the material is wholly immaterial. Your family? We are souls knitted together with ethereal cord, in this life, in the previous life, and in the next. The bindings of this world cannot confound or separate us from the universal consciousness to which we all belong, knowingly or unknowingly. Lesson one...have no fear. You are eternal, and nothing of importance to your Higher Self can be taken from you.
In a box of cacao nibs yesterday, I received the spark that has lit this fire anew in me. The quote is from someone I respect as an Ascended Master, the wise prophet of peace, Mahatma Ghandi. It is a simple principle, and one to which we must adhere if this battle is to be won.
"You must be the change you wish to see in this world!"
Let that marinate for a moment...you, and I, must BE the change we want to see in this world. If you want to see the expansion of liberty, then live free. Just as the Dark Knight embraced that which he feared most, it is our responsibility as free men to stare into the abyss of what will be the fruit of our inaction. Stare it down, acknowledge it, and promise yourself that as long as breath fills your lungs, you will resist it.
You see, a bullet never needs to be fired in anger. A brother never needs to take the life of another. The primary weapon in this war is refusal to participate. Refuse to be a part of this madness that has cascaded over the levies to engulf all of humanity. All that is required for evil to prosper is for good men and women to do nothing. Nothing is the enemy of the free, so let us set out to vanquish it.
This is not "How-To Change the World in a Day." No, this is a study in the principles of free expression, free determination and non-violent resistance. We don't have to fight: we must only resist. We must refuse to be a party to the injustices we see, because standing by idly leads to complicity. And who among us would like to explain to his or her grandchildren how this generation let The Darkness overtake us and lead our people into a new Babylonian Exile.
So, please, good brothers and sisters, please join me. This is my blog, but it is not my blog. It belongs to you. It belongs to everyone. Share ideas, thoughts, conflicts, travails...whatever you may be thinking. I'll put forth my thoughts as often as I can, but I love feedback.
Our world is changing. That can go one of several ways. Let us take up that beacon so bravely held aloft by our forefathers. Let us become the change we want to see in this world. Like I said, this is only one voice in the choir of change, but those voices massed will create a din that cannot be drowned out. We are The Inextinguishable, and we are so much more than what we've been led to believe. We hold the key. Now, together, we must find a way to turn the lock....
